Lankshear joined Tottenham two years ago after coming through the academies of Arsenal and Sheffield United. He has also played in the Championship for West Bromwich Albion last season. The England Under-20 international feels ready for a new challenge and is excited to join Oxford United.
“This is a great opportunity for me to join a new club and work with a new team,” Lankshear said after signing. “I learned a lot from my experiences at Tottenham and West Brom, and I'm eager to take on this new challenge with Oxford United.”
Lankshear's goal is to score as many goals as possible, but he also emphasizes that his game is about more than just scoring. He has taken information from top professionals and is now ready to bring it together and work hard for the team.
Oxford United's Head Coach, Gary Rowett, believes that Lankshear has what it takes to succeed at the club. “Will is an athletic, strong, and quick goalscorer who can make an immediate impact. He has a great record at youth level, and we hope he can bring those qualities to our team,” Rowett said.
With the addition of Lankshear and Nik Prelec to the squad, Oxford United is pleased with the work done to strengthen the forward line for the new season. However, Lankshear must be aware that teammate Dane Scarlett was loaned to Oxford last season and struggled to find playing time, making only 20 appearances and scoring four goals.
This move could be seen as a new opportunity for Lankshear to prove himself and gain more experience, but it also comes with the challenge of competing for playing time and meeting the expectations of the club and its fans.
