Former United defender Rio Ferdinand has spoken out about the situation, stating that the club should have kept De Gea. In an interview, Ferdinand expressed his disappointment in the decision to let De Gea go, saying "I wouldn't have sold David de Gea, I would never have let him go... simple as that. I don't know why he was ever allowed to leave the building."
Ferdinand believes that De Gea was a key player for the team and that his departure has had a significant impact on the club's success. He says "You can't be winning Golden Gloves at your football club and being the best player in the team, player of the year probably three or four times out of six or seven years and then go, 'Listen, see you later', when you are coming into your best years."
De Gea made 545 appearances for Manchester United, winning several honours including the Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and Europa League. The club is currently looking to sign a new goalkeeper, with Senne Lammens being a potential target. However, it remains to be seen whether he will be able to fill the void left by De Gea.
