According to Shi, he has second thoughts about the sale of Jota over the past nine years. In an interview, Shi revealed that he had discussed the possible sale of either Jota or Adama Traore with the team's former manager, Nuno Espirito Santo.
Shi explained that Nuno had chosen to keep Adama Traore at the team, as he believed Adama was crucial to the team's playing style. As a result, Jota was sold, despite being injured at the time.
Although Jota's injuries had affected his performance, Shi acknowledged that the player had still been doing well for the team in the months leading up to his departure. After joining Liverpool, Jota went on to excel and Shi expressed his happiness for the player.
However, Shi admitted that he would have made a different decision if he had the chance to change history. He praised Jota as a "very good guy" and a "smart boy", and expressed his regret over letting him go.
