It's reported that United's goalkeeping scout, Tony Coton, has been monitoring Ellborg's progress for some time.
This is not the first time Coton's work has been praised by Manchester United's football director, Simon Wilcox.
Wilcox recently spoke highly of Coton's diligence, saying he is "relentless" in his search for top talent.
Coton's efforts led to the signing of Senne Lammens, who Wilcox believes has the potential to become a "top signing" for the team.
Manchester United sees Ellborg as a potential backup for Lammens, who is expected to leave the team next year.
With Andre Onana's loan set to expire and Altay Bayindir also expected to depart, Ellborg's skills could be put to the test.
