Despite the transfer rumors, Varandas has confirmed that Sporting will not demand a huge fee for Gyokeres. The player has a £85M release clause in his contract, which has three years remaining. However, Varandas stated that they agreed with Gyokeres that he could leave for £59M this summer, which is not true.
Varandas clarified that Sporting has not received any official offers for Gyokeres, neither last season nor this season. He also mentioned that the player's agent was concerned about the release clause, and they agreed that Sporting would not demand it now, as Gyokeres is in his prime and would be unlikely to leave Portugal at 27 for a huge price.
Varandas stated that the agent wanted to anchor the exit to a value, but he refused, saying that he couldn't guarantee what would happen in a year's time. He only guaranteed that he would not demand €100M euros for Gyokeres' transfer.
Varandas' comments do not help a move to either Manchester United or Arsenal, but it remains to be seen whether Sporting's stance will change in the future.
